Piedmont Symphony's Young Artist Competition

The Piedmont Symphony Orchestra will be hosting its Twenty-third annual Young Artist Competition. This is a wonderful opportunity for your advanced music students. We are grateful that the Philip A. Hughes Foundation will again match our scholarship award money. The first-place winner will receive a $3,000.00 scholarship prize, the second place will receive $1,500.00 and the third prize will receive $1,000.00.

An application link is below. Forms are also available on the PSO's website.

The Piedmont Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition is open to student instrumentalists (piano, strings, winds, or percussion) under the age of 19 as of February 18, 2024 and a resident of one of the following Virginia counties: Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, King George, Madison, Orange, Prince William, Rappahannock, Spotsylvania, Stafford, or Warren (or independent cities within those counties).

This competition is unusual in that the top three finalists will rehearse their concerto with the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra and will perform their selection for solo instrument and orchestra with the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra at its February 18, 2024 concert. The concert will be held at the Michael A. Hughes Highland Center for the Arts, located in Warrenton, Virginia. A panel of judges will evaluate the finalists at the Sunday, February 18, 2024 concert and award first-, second-, and third-place prizes.

The deadline for students to submit their recording and application for the Piedmont Symphony Young Artist Competition is October 10, 2023, at 11:59 PM. They must be submitted to this DropBox link:
